Dzelde Mierkalne (b. 1997, Latvia) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Riga, working across drawing, sculpture, and installation. A graduate of the POST MA program at the Art Academy of Latvia, her practice is marked by a distinctive use of the scagliola technique — a historical marble imitation method — which she adapts to address contemporary existential and psychological concerns. Mierkalne’s work often combines delicate material constructions with ironic or pop-cultural references, balancing emotional intensity with critical distance.
Her visual language is layered, referential, and immersive — inviting reflection on the instability of meaning, the aesthetics of collapse, and the emotional conditions of contemporary life.
